Quote High

I said. (and every day after that)

and I did.

Looking back in the mirror.

If you can't tell, I'm kind of on a quote high.
The midnight-Pinterest-searching kind of high.

To say I am blessed would be an understatement.
I've only been unemployed for two weeks, and I already have a job.

And a pretty good one at that.
I'm ready to work hard to earn my spot and show I deserve this.

The holidays are coming...
I can't wait.

My first holidays with the hubs.

Life Happens...

Disfortumente, life happens. The job I've had for about a year and a couple month has regrettably called it quits. The company I worked for was downsizing, and I unfortunately got the cut. Sucks huh? Especially when I didn't do any wrong--I'll be honest--it was one of the jobs I actually cared about. Well, live and learn...

Now I'm enjoying unemployment for a short while--well not for too long--since I am definitely on the job hunt. Anyone have any leads?  I'll love you forever, and I'll bake you some cookies! :)

On other news...girls that go to the gym with full makeup....please....stop. You are ruining it for the rest of us. Not sure about you, but I go to the gym to sweat. I want to kill myself, and I'm not there to look cute.
Amen to that.

Here's to my job search, and I'll post pics of our vegas trip soon! :)

OOooooh. A Desktop Background!!

Okay, taking time outta my busy day for this fun and cute printable I made!

I was needed a change from my background...and let's be honest, I change my background like I change my socks (which is about once a week) BAHAH.

Kidding, kidding....

I wanted something that I would see and think, "It's kick butt time", all the while making it pretty and design-friendly.

So stay hungry, stay foolish my friends.

Download the file here.

Happy Thursday!
We are hitting up Vegas this weekend for b-day celebrations for my hubster! :)

50 Ways to....

I. Am. Officially. Obsessed with....
this song.

Forgive the horrible punctuation, I just really wanted to make a point.
I love the beginning part. It makes me want to flamenco.
Yes you read that right. Like this:
Ahhh. Any one want to go on a trip to Spain with lil' ol' me?

Oh, and I also made these DEELISH sugar cookies, recipe adapted from Peppermint Plum.

1 cup butter
1.5 cups sugar
2 eggs
4 tsp. vanilla
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
6 cups flour
Mix butter, sugar until creamy. Then add eggs and vanilla. Then sour cream, and salt, soda, and finally flour. Roll them out, and then bake at 375 degrees for 7 minutes. Not too long, or they will be icky! :)

Aw gawsh.
These cookies are the bomb dot com.

We Don't Watch Walking Dead, We Watch...

Vampire Diaries.

Teenish? Maybe.
But about a million times better than Twilight--and the jabs at Twilight are pretty good.

We definitely feel better about it though. Like, tons better about it.

Here's Why:

On Sunday, we were jumping outta our britches awaiting for the premier of The Walking Dead. Since we don't have cable (no self respecting married couple does), all we could do is watch the mini webisodes series. And since we didn't want to wait for gory zombie awesomeness, we watched the series.  (watch below if you dare)

and we about died.
Lit'rally.

We weren't sure if the webisodes were especially gory or what--but we just barely handle watching all 5 of them.

We concluded that while watching Walking Dead, we had become completely desensitized to the gore and violence. We did watch all two seasons in the span of a couple weeks.

And now, with a little breather, we realized how yucky it made us feel. And don't get me wrong, I love the story line, and I want to find out what happens to Rick and his group, but I won't be able to watch anymore. Not to mention how when I showered later, I was beyond terrified that zombies would attack.

From now on, we are going to have to settle for much more "vanilla" type shows. Sign me up for Parks and Rec, The Office, Modern Family, and Vampire Diaries. We don't do zombies here in the Grandela household.

So Fudgin' Tired and Other Things

I am so tired.
I seriously can't believe Elan is gone. I can't voice how proud I am of him.

Missionary celebrations often lead to lack of sleep.
Two nights ago, we got three hours of sleep.
Then the last couple of nights I've been averaging 5 hours of sleep.

I'm not busy really doing anything, I've mostly been staying up just because!

I am so tired, I keep drifting in and out of a semi-unconscious state.

But Fall Break is here. Not sure what that entails. Since BYU doesn't have a fall break, and every other school I've gone to never had a fall break....so it really means I don't have class tonight. Which is alright with me. (I stole the words from this song that was playing on my Pandora as I was writing this post)....

A good little ditty.

October General Conference

With the LDS General Conference this weekend, my hubby and I enjoyed time to just be. We got to snuggle up together and enjoy the words of the prophets.
To me, this conference was all about missionary work. Which wasn't a big surprise, since President Monson revealed that the missionary age for young men was changed to 18 years old and for young women, 19. It was a huge revelation that will result in thousands more of missionaries that are willing and able to go on their mission.
I loved conference. My spirit feels renewed and my heart is open to becoming a better saint.
Elan leaves tomorrow. I am so excited for his choice to serve a full-time mission.
Even after such a crazy weekend (going to the wrong haunted house, being pretty emotional)
All I want to say (and sing. yell. shout. all of the above) Is how grateful I am to be a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. And how true it is. I have no idea what I would be without this Gospel. I know I may not be perfect, but I want to be the person that has unshakeable faith, the one that will rely on Heavenly Father for anything. I'll start by baby steps, but I'll get there :)

I Love You...Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday!

Last week was my birfday.
Imma 23 years old!
What the...what?
This year, I got married, got into business school, stayed at a job for a year.
It's been a big year for me. And one I would never take back.
We went to this new restaurant called The Black Sheep
It's like the best place I have eaten at in a long time.
The place was unique, the food was to die for.
Try it.
Go. Now.

Check out that awesome chandelier.

I stayed at home to celebrate.
I woke up to balloons strewn across our little place.

I've got the best hubby hands down.
Sorry ladies.

And candy corn.
Candy corn everywhere.
A candy corn lovers dream.

Flowers from the hubs.
And a huge container vase of CC.
And that giant cheeseburger looking thing?
It's a tortilla holder and it makes me laugh.

Ah the CC.

Carlos got me a lil' puppy. With a recording of his voice in it. :) I love it.
I also got to spend time with my parents and siblings. (Elan leaves in less than a week!!!!)
I got some awesome workout pants, curling iron, a cute necklace, and my hubby tricked out our new car with cute seat covers!

Can't get enough.

Red velvet cake. With ice cream.
Fat kids delight.

Goals for next year:
Internship.
Better position.
A more nurturing wife.

It was a good day.
Got to spend time with my awesome family, and I realized how blessed I am.
Gosh darn, life is awesome.

This Weekend...

We work hard and play hard here in the Grandela household.
On Friday, Carlos fell asleep at 8 pm. Cool Friday night. Hubby needed it anyways, since he got like 4 hours the night before. I stayed up cleaning, and watching New Girl (yay for Fall premiers).

Saturday, I agreed to help Stacy cater an event at Good Wood at Rocky Mountain Raceway. That was a whole bucket of potato salad fun.

The delectable spread.

These brownies were amazing, and one of the the things we ran out of first.

This spread was really pretty.

The raceway.

See all the smoke? It was from jet cars...or something like that. They made this huge thumping sound (we thought T Rex was coming) and made the loudest noises screaming past. Some went up to 275 mph!

The Jelly Belly fire truck. It blew FLAMES out of the back!

A racetime...and the moon was beautiful.

A wonderful weekend concluded with a farewell, good food, lots of Good Wood, and time spent together.

Happy Monday!

iPhone WIN

Hubbers got an iPhone today. Not the 5...but still. It's an iPhone...and it was freeee.

And I got my iPhone cover...
cutesy huh?

I got the idea from Fabric Paper Glue, and I just had to have it.
Plus, it wasn't even that expensive. So double the win.

We are an Apple family. :)
Now to get Carlos on a Mac...hahah
That will probably never happen---but it's fun to dream right?

Tomorrow I turn 23! Yikes! I'm excited...mostly because I will take a day to relax and chill. My poor hubby has tests up the wazzoo and he's still managing to find time to cook, and eat brownies with me. :)

So What is Successful?

Oftentimes, I find that life gets overwhelming, life gets busy, and I find myself wishing that I had more. And it's not even that I wish I had, it's that I wish that knew more. I hope to be the perfect blend of a crafty blogger, witty writer, suave designer, and somehow be a killer intense business woman. All within a year. As soon as possible. No biggie right?

Maybe it's because I feel like my "prime time" is slipping away--I'm turning 23 here people. And I don't really have anything to show for it. I suppose having something to show for me is having a business, being successful. I can't really define what I think is successful--except for having something to show for it. For me, it would be being able to run a small design firm, living in a big city, having enough money to buy things I want, interning somewhere other than Utah....

As I write this...I realize that I am taking the steps to get there. I am an extremely inpatient person and I want results as well.

My husband keeps telling me that I'm insane, but somehow, in my little brain, I've convinced myself that I'm going to do it. And by golly, I know I will.

I've got to be more dedicated about my dreams and aspirations. I can't just let them drift off...

I know I might sound delusional, and probably crazy, but these are my musings...

Tales of a Tuesday

The weekend treated us well. We finally picked up our little car. It's all ours. It's registered. We are now poor again. But we have a new car! It's pretty cray-cray to actually be doing real kid stuff now.

Carlos has been dying to get a new phone--he's converted to ze iPhone--but since we are bargain hunters/don't really have any money...we are waiting to get the iPhone for freee....we've gone to the Sprint store twice this weekend (once we waited 40 minutes to get it) only to find out...it's not free just yet. Yeesh a mama. We just want a stupid free phone.

Turns out, waiting can be pretty awesome. I got this cute ribbon for $2 Only. (please tell me you know what I'm referencing to--the chip bags....)
I love those chips...yummaroo.

Well I got this ribbon for on the cheap. And the best part was the place I bought it at has nothing to do with crafts. But even better, they gave me an option to donate 5 LIL CENTS to charity. High five to that company...imagine if everyone gave that much on everything they bought?

And just to be fat kids this weekend, we got a Chick-fil-a party tray...for two.
We got comfy with Parks and Rec (which we may have watched all 4 seasons in about 3 weeks--nbd--we are obsessed) and enjoyed a splendiferious weekend.

Random, jumbled thoughts...from the mind of a quite random, jumbled girl.

And I still can't get enough of Gangnam style.
We danced to it yesterday.
At midnight.
After a nap at 7 pm.

Wednesday Wasn't Too Hot...

Yesterday, I had a not so great day.
I think my hubby put it perfectly when he said, "We've been having too many fantastic days, Satan wants to mess with us".

I agree to that, but yesterday was just so long.

  • First of all, it was my Mom's b-day, I wanted to drop off something for her, but we were running late.
  • Work was no fun--I had a run in with a former boss, but who isn't my boss anymore, and it really shook me up.
  • I went to go fix my iPhone screen, but I had to make an appointment (uh LAME).
  • Loans have come in, but we don't know where the money is
  • I lost $15 worth of groceries. I don't know where they went, or whatever.
  • I felt like I was going to pass out during Zumba.
Listing it makes it feel a lot less consequential, but at the same time, it  was a good day. We got Papa Murphy's--and there's a whole pizza at home waiting for us. Got to see my family, and get some sweets. Fell asleep in my hubbs arms.

Honestly, I am ready for this week to be over. But I am excited for the temple dedication for next week.

And I am pretty excited to relax and be with the hubbs this weekend. :)

Good News and Home Improvement

Good news! :) We done (almost) got ourselves a brand-spanking new car! How awesome is that? It is pictured below...(me in my gym clothes--I just came from Zumba--holla!)
We got a great deal on this car, it's still under the factory warranty and it only has about 8,000 miles. Brand new I say! :)
We just have to wait for financial stuff to clear, but we have a cute little car! And it is manual, buuut that's ok, since my bug is manual anyways and we are used to driving cars that way.

And a home improvement project.
I started with these boring jars:

I filled them with flour and sugar, but they were just so drab.
I then found some adorable chalkboard stickers, for only $0.43!!!

So, armed with my chalkboard stickers, $0.77 chalk, and a steady hand, I made these little beauties.
So much cuter, and super easy.

I love our little house. It's so fun to make it all our own.

Throwing a FIT!

So I'm pretty mad.
Fuming actually.

I had a car slip into my life, and out of it in less than 24 hours.

You see, we are in the hunt to buy a car.

She wants:

  • something pleasing to the eye
  • something that gets great gas mileage
  • something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg
  • something that has a clean interior
  • something that they can fit future kiddos in
He agrees with everything, but they both have different definitions of "what is pleasing to the eye". For her, it's something small, light, and well, fit. (Think zippy, sporty compact cars). For him, it's anything that doesn't look too beat up, and is functional. Which is just about any car. *and no hubby, I'm not dissing you*

So, I found a Honda Fit that was a steal. Unfortunately, I wanted the price to be just a little bit lower. I tried to haggle, and I lost. I thought about the car too long, and I lost it. It was great. But, live and learn. And it was a little too high for our budget.

My search continues. And the definition of "pleasing to the eye" gets further defined by my hubby and I.

If anyone knows of any little (and cute) and affordable cars, give me a shout out. Pretty please?
